The Jackson Township Fire Department located in the northwest portion of beautiful Brown County Indiana.  Known for its rolling hills, peaceful atmosphere and lush woods, Brown County is a popular destination of tourists from around the country.  JTFD is an all-volunteer organization that serves a large portion of the Yellowwood Forest, as well as providing mutual aid to Indiana’s largest state park and the surrounding counties.  JTFD responds to residential, business, vehicle and wildland fires. Emergency medical response is another vital service provided as well as assisting in environmental and hazardous emergencies.   JTFD also promotes fire safety and awareness through prevention and education programs.  Members are responsible for training, operational maintenance and raising funds for the department.  Our department also serves the community as an emergency shelter and community gathering place.

Each year the department holds an annual "Pirate Warrior Camp Out Weekend" in Yellowwood State Forest to promote team building and family fellowship.  Our moniker, the Peaceful Valley Pirates was earned from this event and those who attend receive the coveted  pirate patch for that year.

In celebration of National Fire Prevention Week, the department features “BucCornEar Festival and Parade” to be held every third week in September.  This event is a hybrid of three themes:  popcorn, pirates and fire prevention with the purpose being to promote awareness of fire prevention and raise funds for the fire department.  Festivities include a Parade, Car Show, Motorcycle Ride, Bicycle Tour, various carnival activities, musicians, artists and vendor booths.  Special events will be held throughout the festival which  will include pirate reenactments, fire prevention demonstrations, corn shelling and husking events, popcorn challenges and more.

And for those of you who celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day each year on September 19, this event will give you a chance to use those linquistic skills.  Check it out at
